Tell us a little about…
How you first met…
We first met at 15 & 16, Adam was living in Australia and I had gone to visit, we were young and thought it could never work. 25 years later we met up again. Those feelings had never gone away.
The proposal…
Adam proposed at our local restaurant Tonic, it was a complete surprise very romantic and heartfelt.
We had a beautiful ceremony in our very own back yard, fairly casual with our family and close friends, as it was a 2nd wedding for both of us, it was nice to have our children involved, my two gave me a way, as well as being Bridesmaid and Groomsman. Adams son and Daughter were Best man and Bridesmaid. As we love animals so very much, our dog Benji was a big part of the day being the ring-bearer.
Our reception was also at home, not a sit down meal, but platters of canapés.
What is your favourite memory about the day?
The look on Adams face when I arrived, his pure joy, a moment I will never ever forget.
What was the best thing about having a backyard wedding?
The convenience of being able to set up things as we wanted, rather than waiting for the day before or the morning of the wedding.
What made you decide on a backyard wedding?
We love our home, and the surroundings, it has beautiful gardens and there was no where we would rather celebrate.
What are some of the challenges that you faced planning a backyard wedding?
Making everything perfect, the hours we spent on the garden redoing things, even repainting the house at the last minute, you want everything to be just so.
What part of the day or planning are you most proud of?
The reactions from people who had previously been at our house, and could not believe the transformation, especially turning our grotty garage into such a beautiful area.
What were your save and splurge items?
I saved money by buying my wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses online. I bought many decorating things as I found them, and never paid full price. The only thing I would say I splurged on was my insistence of freeze dried rose petals.
What advice do you have for couples who are considering a backyard wedding?
Don’t ever call it a “just at home” wedding, more work goes into a home wedding then imagined. But to us it was perfect, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
